Gioia’s Rec:
Truly great story. Darcy is the second son in this tale, and so when Elizabeth meets him at the Meryton assembly, he is Capt. Darcy. Mr. Bennet is ill at the time and Mr. Collins looms threateningly in the background. There is very slight angst in this story, though it’s largely resolved quickly. Mostly, it’s a really, really good drama. The wonderful characterizations come as no surprise given the quality of all of this author’s stories.
My only critique: This fic intentionally has an extremely-AU premise. Darcy is a naval captain, not the master of Pemberley. I liked this a lot because of the way the author managed to convey Darcy’s canon-characterization in spite of such a change of circumstances, but it may not be to everyone’s taste as a result of those alterations.
