Story Summary: There is more to Harry’s story than what’s in the history books.
I cried throughout this story, but they were happy tears. This is a retrospective piece which takes place toward the end of Harry and Ginny’s life together. The little bits of insight into the previous years establish the “left behind” theme, but in the end it’s easy to see they were there for each other all along. The author weaves the myth of Philemon & Baucis into this tale, adding extra shades to the already colorful life of the famous couple. One moment which particularly hit me was the way that Harry, who was so accustomed in his youth to fighting for every moment of happiness, struggled with the knowledge that he was facing the natural end of their life together. It’s amazing how much courage it takes for him to not fight for more time, more happiness. The author describes this as an angsty story, but I think that in the end it’s a remarkably happy tale.
