Summary: What happened back in Roswell after six local teens disappeared amidst a confusing military operation at West Roswell High’s graduation. How did the parents cope? Where did the gang go with no money, no possessions, and a whole lot of unsettled business between them? Who, in fact, was the enemy? Good questions. Here are some answers.
Carol is an author who was obviously captivated by the depth, beauty and potential of Max & Liz’s romance, and then never lost faith in spite of the many hurdles canon threw at them. In fact, she’s got a gift for working with canon as it is and producing something beautiful in spite of it. So it’s no surprise that she’s responsible for what is possibly my favorite post-Graduation series, as this fic actually fixes a multitude of the messes left behind by the show’s writers.
There are two storylines which alternate then ultimately converge, each of which picks up exactly where the last few seconds of the “Graduation” montage left off.
In the first, Liz’s journal has been received by Jeff and the parents get together to read through it. I absolutely LOVE this. As a mom, I’ve always wondered what the parents’ reactions would’ve been to various adventures – here’s the chance to find out. There are some beautiful, touching moments here, and even more that had me in stitches. This feels like canon.
The second storyline focuses on the journeys of the podsquad, particularly Max and Liz. It’s particularly difficult to describe their adventures without spoiling the story. There is so much logic, so many moments where I asked myself, “Why didn’t the show writers think of this? It makes perfect sense and fixes everything!”
Which I supposed brings me back to why I love Carol’s stories to begin with. She writes Roswell the way it should have been written.
