Summary: Post-End of the World. With a twist.
EmilyluvsRoswell’s talent is obvious in all of her stories, but it is in my absolute favorite Roswell fanfiction, Revelations, that her writing strengths most shine. And while it is true that there are many AU takes on the “End of the World” episode, Revelations is acknowledged by many to be both the most creative and the most realistic approach of them all. Everything from the characterizations to the science behind it all works perfectly in Em’s hands. This is a Liz that you’ll be able to understand and relate to, unlike the one that was present in much of the show’s second season. She is flawed, but her heart is true. She is smart, but still capable of foolish choices. And while I much prefer Revelations to the canon conclusion of Roswell’s second season, that isn’t to say that everything goes perfectly for Liz and Max. They have a different set of obstacles to face in this story, and I think that in the end the journey which Em lays before them is far more in keeping with the characters we came to love in the first season of Roswell.
Em makes a very few, very minor changes in canon in order to stick with her logical approach to resolving matters. For example, a clue is found in a different spot. (Let’s face it – much of the Roswell plot elements and story resolutions were utterly nonsensical and often extremely contradictory. E.g., just try figuring out the kids’ ages!) But nothing is changed enough for this story to actually feel AU. It all fits in perfectly with what one could imagine happening had a few things differed during Liz’s time with Future Max.
Vague accolades only go so far, I know. But without spoiling the story there’s not much else that can be said except for this: If you only ever read one Roswell fanfiction, this should be it.
