Gioia’s Rec:
After having this fic on my rec list for a year, I finally “met” the author and learned she wasn’t by nature the huge Ron apologist (defender) I had imagined she must be after writing Ron so expertly. In fact, she prefers other characters and used this fic as an exercise to get inside Ron’s head.

She succeeded spectacularly. Ron’s got a chessmaster’s view of what happened in “The Lightning Struck Tower” and he is not always as oblivious as some might imagine. The end result is that we see Ron as someone who is fully capable of putting the pieces together and figuring out exactly what took place that night between Snape and Dumbledore. And when you read the way Harmony’s Ron carefully evaluates this situation, you can’t help but believe the conclusions he comes to. So in the end, perhaps Harmony doesn’t just get inside Ron’s head – she also has Ron lead us inside the minds of Dumbledore and Snape. And to do all that in one concise, tightly-worded short-story is a a pretty amazing achievement.
