Gioia’s Rec:
I’ve returned to the story time and again.  It’s Ron’s witty narrative which really sells it for me.  Scenes such as this one, in which Hermione has just lost her temper with Dumbledore, are screamingly hilarious even as they convey a deep poignancy beneath the surface:

“I didn’t know if I should be proud that she’d finally learned to swear like a Weasley, or frightened that she was better at it than I was. I settled for being scared that she was so freaked out she’d suggest that Dumbledore had inserted his head in that portion of his anatomy. It was years later before I understood it was a Muggle phrase. In the magical world you just don’t say things like that. It might give people ideas for new hexes.”

Such a spectacular example of understated, dry humor! I love a well-written, pro-Weasley fic, and this one is fantastic in that regard.

This particular story is the first part of the “Pink Elephant Series.”
