Summary: After her sister marries into the affable Austen family, Elizabeth finds herself drawn to the support and love in their household in London, and finds herself with no want of gentleman callers.
I’m quite surprised I haven’t had this rec posted before now. This is a fic which I’ve sought out more than once, as I very much enjoy the OCs the author has created. Elizabeth’s relationship with Jane’s husband and father-in-law, Doctor and Mister Austen, is so lovely. It is very similar to her relationship with the Gardiners, in that they provide a balm to her soul when she is struggling to deal with her family’s faults. The Austens’ presence is also an enjoyable plot device because, as Mrs. Bennet would say, it “puts her in the way of other rich men.” In other words, we get to see Elizabeth respected and appreciated in London society even before she meets Mr. Darcy.
There is a completed sequel, Between Hope and Guilt, which is also quite good. In fact, while you’re at it, I’d encourage you to check out all of this author’s works.
My Only Critique: There are a very few, minor grammatical errors Also, at one point within the story, plus one point at the end of the story, the author directly addresses her audience, which is a bit of a pet peeve for me. But these are very inconsequential quibbles.
