Story Summary: Rose has her work cut out for her when the Doctor becomes a split personality – ones which don’t always get along. Some that only want to get along with her!
This was extremely creative, entertaining, funny and heart-breaking all rolled into one. I loved how much the “Storm,” Doctor – the rude, passionate one, so behaved like the 9th Doctor. That seemed to fit just perfectly. Another very cool aspect of splitting the Doctor into four personalities was that it seemed as if we were seeing exactly how each one of his regenerations’ personalities were developed. It’s as if they’re developed by taking varying amounts from each of those four splits, thus we have the same man made flesh with very different personalities in each regeneration. Again – what a fascinating story!
And what a brilliant way to bring the Doctor/Rose implied romance to the front of things, and to force both Rose and the Doctor to analyze their feelings better. I think that the Doctor will have more respect for Rose’s feelings for him – and will better trust her feelings – once he has seen that Rose loves all four of his personalities, because it means she understands him and loves him more fully than anyone else ever has. I also think that Rose will feel more secure in her relationship with him as a result of her conversations with each of the Doctor’s four personalities, because she will not only understand what makes him love her, but what holds him back from expressing it. This was VERY well developed. And, wow – if ever there was a fic for which the “character study” tag was intended, this is definitely it!
Please note that the “out-of-character” tag is not a criticism (I never include critique in the tags), as it’s referring to a deliberate story element. The tag is intended to make it easier to find fics in which the protagonist is not acting as himself as a result of some plot device (like being split into four versions of himself). 🙂
