Never mind wizards vs muggles; Harry has his own thing going on. Character study, pre-Hogwarts, NOT a creature!fic, slightly cracky.

I’ve never before seen such a story as this one! “Fantastic Elves and Where to Find Them” is brilliantly creative, inventive, and utterly unique.  It is also extremely well-written.

There are numerous stories around about Harry running away from the Dursleys as a small child.  I’ve also seen stories in which Harry is taken in by a mythical race.  This story will be appreciated by any who like those types of AU fics, and yet it is completely different.  Harry comes to the mistaken conclusion that his so-called “freakish” behavior is because he is an elf.  He then sets out to live as one.

The whimsical tale reminds me of everything I loved about books such as The Littles or The Boxcar Children – but with more of a mythological emphasis than those books – or the marvelous, magical children’s books by Ruth Chew .  It’s absolutely delightful to watch Harry’s rudimentary survival skills become increasingly accomplished as he uses his cunning wit, magic, insight and charming, childish personality to make his way in the world.  I cannot recommend this story highly enough.  I also cannot wait for the promised sequel!
